Employment Services
Many immigrants arrive in the US with education and experience that benefit America’s businesses. Others arrive with only a few job skills. We find jobs for new arrivals, help immigrants and refugees identify career paths, and provide job upgrading and job training. Employers rely on referrals of work-authorized clients from the Institute.

Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Training
We train immigrants for careers in hospital and health care settings. Twice annually, we offer a 12-week training course, weekday evenings and on Saturdays. Training is team-taught by nursing professionals along with a qualified ESOL instructor. Classroom and lab sessions are offered at our auxiliary site at 4131 S. Grand Blvd. Clinical training is offered at SSM Rehabilitation, St. Mary’s Health Center, and St. John’s Mercy Skilled Nursing Center. The program is certified to operate by the Missouri Department of Higher Education.
Registration hours: at the International Institute, Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.
Our goal is to help immigrants enter jobs in the health care field with its many career ladders and opportunities. St. Louis’ health care sites have a great and growing unmet need for qualified health care support staff.

Who is eligible? Low-income, work-authorized immigrants, including refugees (income and length of residence restrictions apply for full tuition subsidy).
Services are free to qualified immigrants. They are underwritten by a variety of public and private sources. A sliding fee scale is offered for immigrants not meeting income or other restrictions.
What our students say:
“The program is very good and the teachers are great people to work with. Anyone who wants to start in the health care field should go through the program.” (Spring 2004 student)
