HIRE-St. Louis
HIRE-St. Louis is an outreach initiative about the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers regarding the anti-discrimination provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
Depending on the audience, “HIRE” means Hiring Immigrants: Responsibilities (Rights) of Employers (Employees). Using a variety of specially-prepared materials, outreach will be conducted as follows:
-
Employers will gain knowledge from concrete information provided on their responsibilities under the anti-discrimination provisions of INA. Dissemination methods include videos, a monthly enewsletter, and periodic employer forums;
Foreign-born employees will learn more about worker rights in workshops conducted at ESOL sites and information disseminated by ethnic media outlets;
-
Immigrant advocates will gain skills about the steps in helping someone file a complaint; and the
-
General public will become more knowledgeable to identify and avoid discrimination as a result of viewing, hearing or reading materials in English and translated languages. Materials will include and dissemination methods will include posters and other materials from the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), fact sheets, social networking and other electronic transmissions.
The International Institute is integrating such materials into its on-going information distribution networks including enewsletters, social network sites, and public presentations to ensure that the one-year project has multi-year impact.
Human Resources Toolkit for Hiring Immigrants
Responsibilities of Employers/Rights of Employees
The project-produced Human Resources Toolkit provides local employers with information about resources and support to hire and retain immigrant workers. The HR Toolkit can help managers and owners successfully employ a more diverse workforce, critical to success of businesses in these days of growing global markets and ever evolving pools of employees. The Toolkit provides information about avoiding discrimination of job applicants and about a variety of non-profit local resources for employers and employees. While the information in the Toolkit is non-exhaustive, it provides a good starting point from which to learn about the ins-and-outs of employer and worker rights.
Contact the International Institute with questions regarding Form I-9, employment-related information for ESOL students, employer training workshops, and community outreach. Focus specifically on the anti-discrimination provisions of the Immigrant and Nationality Act (INA) with regard to employment. Please call or email with questions about immigration-related discrimination in employment. We want to hear from you!
