Pillar 1: Immersion
Social and Educational Services
The International Institute immerses refugees and immigrants in a variety of social and educational services designed to accelerate their settlement in St. Louis. We aim to provide “…a continuum of superior quality services for immigrants and their families," according to our strategic plan.
Services in the Individuals & Families Division focus on initial adjustment services to newcomers and their families with a goal to help raise newcomers out of poverty. Services include English classes, job placement, and refugee resettlement. Special services are available for some newcomers with greater needs, including counseling and social work, job training and other special services.
The Institute anchors the southern end of the city’s thriving international district, a neighborhood which has been revitalized by immigrant-owned businesses and which now draws new customers from throughout our region. Most of our region’s growing refugee community lives within 15 minutes of the Institute’s headquarters facility.
