Pillar 1: Immersion

Social, Employment and Educational Services

Services in this division are short-term, generally lasting no more than one year after program registration. Services are focused on the most recent and least settled of IISTL’s constituents: newly arrived refugees, undocumented foreign-born who have been trafficked, and, from among them, individuals with ongoing mental and physical health challenges. We aim to provide “top notch, first-touch high quality services for immigrants and their families," according to our strategic plan.

Services include Education, including English, citizenship and computer classes; Refugee Resettlement; and Employment and Training. Services include Immigration Assistance and those to Vulnerable Populations, including elderly refugees and victims of human trafficking.

The Institute anchors the northern end of the city’s thriving International District, a revitalized neighborhood featuring numerous immigrant-owned businesses and which attracts its customers from throughout our region. Most of our region’s recently arrived refugee populations reside within 15 minutes of the Institute’s headquarters facility.
