At the International Institute, we believe in equity and opportunity for all. For those looking to make a difference, we offer a variety of ways to contribute to a more inclusive society.

How do I become a volunteer? Find and sign up for volunteer opportunities using the link below. You may be required to complete a background check or additional training, depending on the volunteer role.  This link will direct you to the Institute’s page on the Golden platform.

What is Golden? Golden is a volunteer management platform that offers volunteers a more streamlined experience, including easier sign-ups, real-time updates on opportunities, mobile access for on-the-go convenience, and personalized profiles to track hours and progress.

Do I have to use Golden? All volunteer opportunities will be posted in Golden.  Logging your hours in a single platform improves the Institute’s ability to report on one of our most valuable resources – volunteer’s time.  The ability to demonstrate, in numbers, the value of volunteer’s time donated to the Institute improves our ability to apply for grants, communicate with stakeholders, and so much more.

What if I need some help with Golden? If you have questions about how to get started, watch this helpful tutorialcheck out this Golden resource or contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Claire Baldeck.

Are there requirements to become a volunteer? In order to volunteer at the International Institute, we ask that you:

  • Review the Volunteer Manual before your first shift.
  • Be at least 18 years of age, some exceptions apply
  • Pass a criminal background check (for client-related volunteer roles)
    • Background checks cost $20 and are applicable for 12 months

Throughout the year, volunteer opportunities range from regular, consistent program support and individual events. We invite your group to join the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and expertise to serve refugees and immigrants in our community.  Some examples of volunteer opportunities throughout the year:

  • Event volunteering: Roles vary per events and include registration, set up and tear down, vendor and artist support, guest relations and more. Annual events may include Race for Refugees (March/April), World Refugee Day (June), First Thanksgiving (November), and Festival of Nations (August).
  • Interview Practice: Volunteers work one-to-one with a student, sharing insight into American professional and cultural expectations, providing English language guidance, while offering encouragement and feedback during mock job interviews.
  • Community Bazaar Support: Volunteers support client food distribution, help restock food items as needed, and transform the space before and after the Bazaar.

If you have any questions, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Claire Baldeck.

Thank you for wanting to make a difference in the lives of others.
